IAS Award for Excellence in the PhD Dissertation

The IAS presents a triennial Award for Excellence in the PhD Dissertation to provide recognition to exceptional young scientists or engineers, who have performed original doctoral thesis work of outstanding quality, achievement and impact in the area of adsorption. The award consists of $1,000 and a certificate citing the accomplishments of the recipient. the award winner will be given the opportunity to present their work through one of the society’s activities, e.g., IAS Webinar, FOA conference. Since 2023, this award will be presented annually.

PhD supervisors at a PhD-awarding institution may submit nominations; the same person can submit no more than one nomination; self-nominations are excluded. The nominated PhD dissertation must have been completed, published and defended, and the PhD degree examined and awarded during the calendar year preceding the closing date for nominations (January 1st of each year). Its topic should belong to the field of adsorption, which has to be interpreted in a broad sense, i.e. from fundamentals to applications. Nominations for the award will consist of a nomination letter from the Ph.D. advisor together with the Ph.D. thesis (in pdf format) and must be submitted (by email to the IAS Secretary).

Awards Committee
A committee of at least three IAS members will be nominated by the IAS President and approved by the IAS board of directors. The Awards committee will review all nominations for the IAS Awards and make recommendations for the awardees for approval by the IAS Board of Directors.

Eligibility for Nominators and Nominees for IAS Awards
Both nominators and nominees for IAS awards must be members of IAS at the time of nomination and at the time the awards are presented.
